“There are seniors right now in our community going hungry; that is why it is so imperative to have the Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels is much more than a meal a day; it also it gives us an opportunity to check in on our seniors, say hello and much more,” said Wilda Belisle, Meals on Wheels Director for the Osceola Council on Aging. “We need our community to come out and walk and run to help our seniors who are counting on us to provide them a hot and/or cold meal. We can’t let them down.”
March for Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March, initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America to raise awareness of senior hunger and to encourage action on the part of local communities. Hundreds of Senior Nutrition Programs across the United States, like Meals On Wheels, promote Osceola Council on Aging March for Meals through public events, partnerships with local businesses, volunteer recruitment and fundraising initiatives.
“The Meals on Wheels network is the only national, community-based network in this country working exclusively on the isolation and hunger that so many aging Americas face,” said Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander. “March for Meals is an important time for us all to stand with our local Meals on Wheels programs to fight for the independence of our seniors so that they can remain healthier and happier at home.”
