Orlando, FL – El Dr. Phillips Center para las Artes Escénicas inauguró un nuevo relieve de bronce del artista de renombre mundial Paul Day, en honor al Presidente Emérito James H. Pugh, Jr., el visionario cuyo dedicado liderazgo contribuyó a la creación del centro de artes.
De 2003 a 2022, Pugh dirigió la organización desde su concepción hasta su finalización, ejerciendo casi dos décadas como presidente. Su tiempo, experiencia y firme determinación fueron fundamentales para hacer realidad la visión de un centro de artes escénicas de talla mundial. Junto con su esposa, Alexis, Pugh fue el primer donante del proyecto, con una donación que dio nombre al Teatro Alexis & Jim Pugh, de 294 asientos, un espacio íntimo que desde entonces ha acogido a miles de artistas y espectáculos regionales.
Bajo su liderazgo, el centro inauguró el Teatro Walt Disney con capacidad para 2,700 personas, elevando la fama de Broadway en Orlando, y el Steinmetz Hall, un espacio multiforme que amplió el acceso cultural en Florida Central y fue reconocido por Architectural Digest como uno de los 11 teatros más bellos del mundo.

Encargada por Neal Dempsey, amigo de muchos años y donante del centro de arte, la escultura en relieve de bronce a gran escala refleja el impacto duradero de Pugh en las artes en Florida Central. Creada por el artista internacionalmente reconocido Paul Day, conocido por “The Meeting Place” en la estación St. Pancreas de Londres y “A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor” en el Rollins College, la nueva pieza simboliza el camino de visión, liderazgo y comunidad que Pugh orquestó para dar vida al Centro Dr. Phillips.

Dr. Phillips Center unveils sculpture honoring Founding Chairman James H. Pugh
Orlando, FL – Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has unveiled a new bronze relief sculpture by world-renowned artist Paul Day, honoring Chairman Emeritus James H. Pugh, Jr.—the visionary whose dedicated leadership helped bring the arts center to life.
From 2003 to 2022, Pugh guided the organization from concept to completion, serving nearly two decades as chairman. His time, expertise and steadfast determination were instrumental in transforming the vision of a world-class performing arts center into reality. Alongside his wife, Alexis, Pugh was the very first donor to the project, making a gift that named the 294-seat Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater—an intimate venue that has since welcomed thousands of regional artists and performances.
Under his leadership, the center opened the 2,700-seat Walt Disney Theater, elevating Broadway in Orlando, and Steinmetz Hall, a multiform venue that expanded cultural access for Central Florida and was recognized by Architectural Digest as one of the 11 most beautiful theaters in the world.

This sculpture ensures he continues to always be a part of our story.”
Commissioned by long-time friend and arts center donor Neal Dempsey, the large-scale bronze relief sculpture reflects Pugh’s lasting impact on the arts in Central Florida. Created by internationally recognized artist Paul Day, known for The Meeting Place in St. Pancreas Station in London and A Beautiful Day for a Neighbor at Rollins College, the new piece symbolizes the journey of vision, leadership and community that Pugh orchestrated in bringing Dr. Phillips Center to life.
