¿Cuáles son los eventos a seguir en un año que será muy ocupado?
Super Bowl LVIII – 11 de febrero
Será el primero en la historia en Las Vegas, y también podría ser el que rompa la sequía de franquicias históricas como 49ers o Cowboys. Los dos equipos de la NFC con cinco anillos, que tienen 29 y 28 años sin ser campeones, respectivamente, serán los mejores dos de su conferencia (casi seguro) y posiblemente se verán las caras en el campeonato de conferencia. ¿Alguno conseguirá el sexto título, o Lamar Jackson se los impedirá?
Finales de la NBA – a partir del 6 de junio
Hasta ahora todo pinta para ser un encuentro entre los actuales campeones, Denver Nuggets, y el equipo con el mejor récord de la liga, los Boston Celtics. Claro, también los Bucks, 76ers, Wolves o el Thunder pueden alzar la mano, y falta ver si logran levantarse equipos decepción como Suns, Lakers o Warriors.
Euro Alemania 2024 – del 14 de junio al 14 de julio
Se viene una preciosa edición con muchos candidatos: los franceses que son favoritos, los locales que buscan recuperarse, los ingleses que siempre se quedan cortos, los portugueses que tuvieron un 2023 magnífico, o los jóvenes españoles, por decir algunos. Quien luce muy lejos de su nivel hace tres años, cuando fueron campeones contra todo pronóstico, son los italianos. ¿O se repetirá la historia?
Copa América – del 20 de junio al 14 de julio
La segunda edición del torneo de selecciones más antiguo del mundo que se disputará en Estados Unidos, con la final siendo jugada en la capital de Latinoamérica: Miami. Argentina es ligera favorita a bicampeona con un equipo casi idéntico al que ganó la Copa del Mundo, pero Uruguay es un fuerte candidato gracias a la revolución que ha hecho Marcelo Bielsa. Otros como Colombia o Ecuador pueden ser animadores, México y Estados Unidos esperan hacer un papel decente, mientras Brasil vive su peor crisis en 23 años y no luce como un candidato real.
Juegos Olímpicos París 2024 – del 26 de julio al 11 de agosto
Más allá de ser los primeros JJOO con breakdancing o que serán los primeros con total paridad de atletas hombres y mujeres, lo que más esperamos es la espectacular inauguración en el río Sena. En vez de en un estadio, por primera vez las comisiones desfilarán a través sobre el agua mientras el fuego olímpico se prende junto a la Torre Eiffel. Serán, también, los primeros Juegos Olímpicos sin pandemia desde Río 2016, y realmente es el evento más importante del año.
Playoffs de Grandes Ligas – a partir del 1 de octubre
Lo que todo el mundo espera es ver a Shohei Ohtani, el beisbolista más talentoso que hayamos visto, jugando beisbol importante por primera vez desde que llegó a la MLB. Sí, ganó el Clásico Mundial con Japón el año pasado, pero su simple presencia en una posible Serie Mundial ahora que está en los Dodgers significará, también, rating como nunca antes.

What are the events to watch in a year that’ll be quite busy?
Super Bowl LVIII – February 11
It will be the first one ever in Las Vegas, and it could also be the one that breaks the drought of historic franchises like the 49ers or Cowboys. The two NFC teams with five rings, which haven’t been champions for 29 and 28 years, respectively, will be the best two in their conference (almost certainly) and will possibly meet in the conference championship. Will any of them win their sixth title, or will Lamar Jackson keep them from it?
NBA Finals – starting June 6
So far it looks like it’ll be a match between the current champions, Denver Nuggets, and the team with the best record in the league, the Boston Celtics. Of course, the Bucks, 76ers, Wolves or Thunder can also raise their hands, and it remains to be seen if disappointing teams like the Suns, Lakers or Warriors can come back.
Euros Germany 2024 – from June 14 to July 14
A beautiful edition is coming with many candidates: the French who are favorites, the hosts who are looking to get back in form, the English who always fall short, the Portuguese who had a magnificent 2023, or the young Spaniards, to say a few. Who looks very far from their level three years ago, when they were champions against all odds, are the Italians. Or will history repeat itself?
Copa América – from June 20 to July 14
The second edition of the oldest national team tournament in the world that will be held in the United States, with the final being played in the capital of Latin America: Miami. Argentina is a slight favorite for repeating with a team almost identical to the one that won the World Cup, but Uruguay is a strong candidate thanks to the revolution that Marcelo Bielsa has made. Others like Colombia or Ecuador can be dark horses, Mexico and the United States hope to play a decent role, while Brazil is experiencing its worst crisis in 23 years and doesn’t look like a real candidate.
Olympic Games Paris 2024 – from July 26 to August 11
Beyond being the first Olympics with breakdancing or the first with total parity of male and female athletes, what we’re most looking forward to is the spectacular opening ceremony on the Seine River. Instead of in a stadium, for the first time the commissions will parade across the water while the Olympic fire is lit next to the Eiffel Tower. It’ll also be the first Olympic Games without a pandemic since Rio 2016, and it really is the most important event of the year.
Major League Playoffs – starting October 1
What everyone is waiting for is to see Shohei Ohtani, the most talented baseball player we’ve ever seen, playing significant baseball for the first time since he came to the MLB. Yes, he won the World Classic with Japan last year, but his simple presence in a possible World Series now that he’s on the Dodgers will also mean ratings like never before.
